It’s World Cocktail Day 2025! And what better way to celebrate it than by drinking some modern retellings of great classic cocktails?
From fruity to spicy, we have a range of cocktails to show off in this blog, each having a special, fun twist for you to try!
1. Tommy’s Margherita
Starting strong for World Cocktail Day 2025, changing from the regular margherita, we swap the Cointreau for some nectar, creating a stronger depth of taste.
While the classic margherita was formed in the prohibition era, this one was concocted in San Francisco, in a restaurant called Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant by a man called Julio Bermijo. A west coast style that has the right amount of sweetness, there is no doubt why it is such a popular twist on the margherita.
2. Kingston Negroni
Swapping out the gin for rum, preferably Smith and Cross, this notorious twist of a Negroni allows for a powerful blend of ingredients to secure a sweetened taste. Blended by Joaquin Simo in 2010 in a New York City bar (who came up with the idea within 5 minutes of securing the Smith and Cross bottle!), this sweetened twist became vastly popular. A fan favourite to create on World Cocktail Day 2025.
3. The French Pearl
Taking a visit to France for World Cocktail Day 2025, we have a popular twist on the mojito. Mixing Gin, Pastis, lime juice, and garnished with mint leaves, this drink is bound to transport you to a French bar. Voila!
Made in 2006 by Audrey Saunders, this strong cocktail is a super out-there way to celebrate World Cocktail Day 2025!
4. Bentons Old Fashioned
This strange concoction, inspired by the classic old-fashioned, definitely belongs on this list for World Cocktail Day 2025. Created by Don Lee in 2007, this cocktail was formed during experiments of fatwashing. Don Lee infused country ham into bourbon, mixed it with some maple syrup, angostura bitters, and strained it into a rocks glass over a singular ice cube. What an odd way of drinking!
5. Raspberry Daiquiri
This fruity modern twist on the classic strawberry daiquiri, using fresh raspberries, lime, and white rum, can be a delicious way to celebrate World Cocktail Day 2025.
Enjoy by serving in a nice cold coupe glass with one or two raspberries on top for garnish. This modern twist on the strawberry daiquiri is small but impactful for lasting taste!
6. The Cosmo-Margherita
A modern hybrid of the cosmopolitan and the margherita is the cosmo-margherita. With a sophisticated taste, this is a fantastic modern twist to celebrate with on World Cocktail Day 2025. Using floral hibiscus tea, tequila, and triple sec, served in a coupe glass, allows for a powerful cocktail.
So if you like the cosmopolitan and the margherita, try blending them for one tasty cocktail!
7. Pina Verde
A modern twist on the classic Pina Colada is perfect for World Cocktail Day 2025. Created by Erik Gastro with the aim of creating a drink filled with herbaceous flavour, it includes chartreuse, pineapple juice, Coco Lopez, and lime juice. Simply blend it, place into a rocks glass, and garnish with a mint sprig to enjoy this delicious version of Pina Colada.
8. The Old Cuban
Another modern twist on the mojito for this year’s World Cocktail Day 2025. Created by the famous bartender Audrey Saundees, with the ingredients rum, mint, bitters, simple syrup, and either champagne or sparkling wine. This allows for that minty mojito taste with the twist of bubbly and is an absolute no-brainer when it comes to trying modern twists on cocktails!
